Scott D. Yates specializes in advising troubled companies and their stakeholders (including secured creditors, bondholders, unsecured creditors and equity holders) about restructuring their operational and financial positions.  His primary areas of concentration are the development, evaluation and implementation of turnaround plans for companies in distress.  His experiences in liquidity management and cost reduction initiatives provide a complement of services to assist companies with financial and operational turnarounds.

With more than 20 years of management and consulting business experience, Mr. Yates has advised management teams, boards of directors, secured lenders, and other creditor groups in a variety of ways, ranging from advisor to interim management to line management in many industry sectors, including: nuclear energy, biomass energy, receivables management, e-commerce, industrial distribution, electronic contract manufacturing, sporting goods manufacturing, pet products manufacturing, aerospace manufacturing, home building products manufacturing, automotive supply chain, and management consulting.

Mr. Yates has been President of several companies across industries including electronic contract manufacturing, sporting goods manufacturing and industrial distribution.  He has deep domain experience in supply chain management through his experience as a management consultant with A.T. Kearney and with the startup SupplierMarket.com which was sold to Ariba.

Prior to becoming a Partner with GGG Partners, Mr. Yates partnered with several private equity firms to acquire and run middle market companies with customers ranging from Wal-Mart to Georgia Pacific.  During his time in line management at larger companies, he worked with customers such as Dell, IBM, Citicorp and Best Buy.  As a management consultant, Mr. Yates worked with companies in North America, South America and Europe, including General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Waste Management and United Technologies. 

Mr. Yates spent five years as an officer in the United States Navy, proudly serving as part of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Mr. Yates lives in Atlanta with his wife Elizabeth and three children, Margaux, Dorsey and Sam.

Education

Mr. Yates received a Masters of Business Administration degree from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.  He received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University.  He received a Masters of Engineering degree in industrial engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.  In addition, Mr. Yates received an equivalent master’s degree in nuclear engineering from training during his tenure in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
